Sydney and Melbourne are fabulously cosmopolitan cities with dynamic restaurant scenes, and the continent’s rich desert scenery, picture-perfect beaches, and thick rainforest hover just beyond their limits. Australia’s wine regions are deservedly famous—Clare Valley makes delicate Riesling, and Barossa valley produces robust Shiraz; there are many beautiful vineyards in these areas, and its easy to visit a few in one day, either by car, or by bicycle.
