After exploring the town, fly to Vientiane; though it is the capital of Laos, the city still maintains a good deal of charm. Fly next to Pakse, the southern provincial capital, and your starting point for full exploration of the wild beauty of this southern region. Tour Alak villages, and then spend a night by the Tad Lo waterfalls. Return to Pakse by road and make your way to the 4,000 islands, in the heart of southern Laos. Explore the ruins of Wat Phou, one of Southeast Asia’s most dramatically situated temples before driving to Khong Island. This region of waterfalls, islands, and lush vegetation near the Cambodian border is teeming with wildlife and is one of the loveliest destinations in Laos. Tour the surrounding countryside, then transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
